General Scope of Project
Unusual aspects of this project include the complex masonry amphitheater seating with a water runnel which courses through the custom-designed “Chadar” fountain on third level. Then it heads through the granite limestone seats, terminating into the “star” fountain in the center of the plaza on the second level. The plaza doubles as a roof for the multilevel garage below, while supporting the amphitheater.
The Ali Center is truly a showcase to Louisville’s own Muhammad Ali and David Construction was honored to contribute our dedication to building great things for this amazing facility. Ali is considered among the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time finishing with a record of 56-5 and remains the only 3 time lineal world champion holding the title in 1964, 1974, & 1978.
Outside the ring though Ali’s stands on religious freedom, racial justice and the championing of principle over what is popular made him one of the most recognized sports figures of the past 100 years. Recognized as “Sportsman of the Century” by Sports Illustrated and “Sports Personality of the Century” by the BBC Muhammad Ali is a global icon that will surely impact this world for generations to come.
Muhammad Ali’s 6 Core Principles
Shared from the Ali Center website these principles are at the core of the Muhammad Ali Center.
Belief in oneself, one’s abilities, and one’s future.
A firm belief that gives one the courage to stand behind that belief, despite pressure to do otherwise.
The act of devoting all of one’s energy, effort, and abilities to a certain task.
To present voluntarily without expecting something in return.
Esteem for, or a sense of the worth or excellence of, oneself and others.
A sense of awe, reverence, and inner peace inspired by a connection to all of creation and/or that which is greater than oneself.
Muhammad Ali Center
The Ali Center is truly a gem of the south and a must see cultural center. It’s located in the heart of historic downtown Louisville, Kentucky right on the historic Ohio river. The Muhammad Ali Center was founded by Lonnie and Muhammad Ali as an international cultural center. Here’s an excerpt from the Ali Center website:
A visit to the Center is not just an experience, but a journey into the heart of a champion. The Center’s three levels of award-winning exhibits and galleries invite visitors to explore Muhammad Ali’s legendary life, as well as to reflect upon one’s own individual values, inner strength, character, and what makes you the greatest person you can be.”
